“You are your best thing”
I’m Amber. I’m 25 years old. I’m a text book Sagittarius with a passion for all things creative and a thirst for travel. I’ve left my heart in many places around the world having lived, worked and travelled for 20 months through Italy, Australia and South East Asia.
I’m an Auntie to twins. I’m a bookworm. I’m a Yogi. I’m the number one fan of a glass of vino and a heavy slice of carrot cake. I’m a 90s kid with an old soul.
I’m also your average millennial trying to make sense of a social media saturated, picture perfect, why-haven’t-I-got-my-shit-together-yet world.
I created Words of Wander in 2014 simply to carve out my own corner of the internet to spill out my feelings. It was an online diary: a place where I could be as honest and wild as I needed to be. When I moved to Florence in November 2014, it took much more of a travel twist. Now I had a place to chronicle my adventures in the most beautiful city on earth. Somewhere to shout about this incredible chapter of my life.
As I moved through living in the Northern Beaches of Sydney to travelling the East Coast and temporarily settling in Melbourne before eventually taking on South East Asia, I continued to balance the blog between travel and lifestyle, opening up about mental health and the impact of a less than ideal childhood whilst still paying homage to the world I was exploring. Feedback was always kind, honest and beautifully raw. It made every word worthwhile.
I returned back to Britain in July 2016 thanks to a split second decision whilst relishing in a moment of alone-ness on a Thai Island. I missed the comfort of home and love it provided me with. The smell of crumpets with butter. The beautiful stretches of British Countryside. I took a career change (after realising through my travels my true values) and landed an exciting job in my hometown. And that’s where I am now.
So where does that leave the blog?
Just because I am home, there is no reason to stop wandering and wondering. I now want to use this space to reflect on my adventures through poetry, to gain new ones as I get to know my hometown (after 7 years living away from it!) and the beautiful sights here in the UK. It will be a space to chronicle my journey to a more sustainable and eco-conscious life and one to continue being honest about health and wellbeing.
Most of all? I want to celebrate you. Brave, beautiful you. I want to be a part of a movement that takes us away from posting for likes and followers to fit in with what is deemed to be “trending” and towards a place where we are all enough. Just as we are.
Join me on that movement. Welcome to Words of Wander.
